The last two years of Schubert’s life were among his most prolific, giving rise, amongst other works, to his last piano sonata, in B flat major, and his second set of Impromptus, both of which are performed here by Dasol Kim. In each of these “musical landscapes” (to borrow Adorno’s expression) looms the shadow of a “tragic solitude” – that of man facing his death, which Schubert the traveller transcends in these wonderful – sometimes heart-breaking, sometimes ecstatic – pieces.

Les deux dernières années de la vie de Schubert comptent parmi ses plus prolifiques. De celles-ci jaillissent notamment une ultime sonate pour piano, en si bémol, et le deuxième cahier d’Impromptus, que Dasol Kim enregistre ici. Dans ces deux “paysages schubertiens”, selon la belle expression d’Adorno, plane l’ombre d’une “solitude tragique” – celle de l’homme face à sa mort, que le voyageur Schubert transcende dans ces pages sublimes, tantôt déchirantes, tantôt extatiques.
